Description
What Hemorrhoid Banding Does
-
- Places a small rubber band at the base of the hemorrhoid
- Stops blood flow to that hemorrhoid tissue
- Makes the hemorrhoid shrink, dry up and detach naturally over time
- Aims to relieve bleeding, swelling, burning and discomfort when sitting or passing stool
Who This Procedure Is For
- Patients with recurrent internal hemorrhoids that bleed or prolapse
- Patients who keep getting “piles attacks” even after creams and medication
- Patients with discomfort when passing stool or cleaning, but without severe external thrombosis
- Patients who want a clinic-based option instead of immediate hospital surgery
How the Banding Procedure Works
- Assessment
A discreet anal/rectal exam is done to confirm the issue is suitable for banding (typically internal hemorrhoids). If the problem is actually a fissure, abscess or thrombosed external hemorrhoid, a different approach may be needed. - Positioning and Local Comfort
You are positioned for access. Local anaesthesia or numbing is used where appropriate to keep you as comfortable as possible. - Band Placement
A tiny rubber band is applied at the base of the hemorrhoid. The band cuts off the hemorrhoid’s blood supply so it shrinks. - Aftercare Instructions
You receive guidance on what to expect in the next few days: mild pressure / fullness feeling, how to manage discomfort, how to clean, and what is normal versus what needs urgent review (severe pain, heavy bleeding, fever). - Follow-Up
A follow-up appointment is arranged to check healing, confirm bleeding has reduced and assess if additional banding sessions are required for other hemorrhoids.
