Description
What These Minimally Invasive Procedures Aim to Treat
- Painful, tense gout flare in a joint (toe, ankle, foot, knee, elbow) that is too swollen to move or bear weight
- Tophi (hard uric acid deposits) that are swollen, irritated, leaking or at risk of breaking through the skin
- Recurrent gout swelling in the same spot that is now forming a lump and affecting shoe fit, grip or joint motion
- Localised build-up causing constant pressure, throbbing pain or difficulty sleeping / working
Who This Service Is For
- Patients with severe, targeted pain and swelling that is not settling fast enough with medication alone
- Patients with tophi that keep getting inflamed, rubbing on footwear or threatening to ulcerate / open
- Patients whose joint is so tight and stretched that they cannot walk, flex, grip or sleep comfortably
- Patients who have been living with large, visible tophi and now want active intervention instead of repeating painkillers
How Minimally Invasive Gout / Tophi Procedures Work
- Focused Clinical Assessment
The doctor examines the swollen joint or tophus to confirm it is gout-related and not an infected joint or other emergency. Medical history (uric acid levels, previous flares, other conditions like diabetes or hypertension) is reviewed first. - Local Anaesthesia
The target area is cleaned and numbed so that the procedure can be done as an outpatient day case, keeping you as comfortable as possible. - Minimally Invasive Intervention
Depending on the case, the clinician may perform a small controlled procedure on the affected area, for example relieving pressure from a tense, angry tophus or addressing painful local build-up. The aim is to reduce acute pressure, pain and risk of skin breakdown while protecting surrounding tissue. (For complex/deep cases that require full surgical excision, you will be advised if referral is safer.) - Dressing and Protection
The treated area is cleaned and covered. You get instructions on elevation, rest, footwear / support, and how to keep the site clean and protected from friction. - Aftercare and Monitoring
You receive guidance on pain control, red-flag signs (spreading redness, fever, pus), and when to return for review. You will also be advised on long-term uric acid control to prevent repeat buildup.
Why Choose Clinic-Based Minimally Invasive Care
- Targeted Relief – Focus on the exact swollen, tender point that stops you from walking, gripping or sleeping, instead of only giving general painkillers.
- Local Anaesthesia, Day Case – Performed in a clinic setting under local anaesthesia, typically without hospital admission.
- Protection of Skin and Joint – Early controlled intervention aims to prevent the lump from ulcerating, leaking or deforming the joint over time.
- Structured Wound Care – You leave with clear dressing instructions, support advice (shoes, splinting, rest position) and specific review timing.
- Chronic Management Link – After the immediate problem is handled, WeCare Clinic can continue long-term gout management (uric acid control, flare prevention, weight and blood pressure support) in the same network.
