Description

Available Circumcision Methods

  • Dorsal Slit Technique
A controlled surgical opening and removal of the foreskin using standard instruments. This method is often chosen for very tight foreskin (phimosis) or swelling that makes other devices hard to apply. Suitable for medical/functional indications such as painful tightness, recurrent infections or tearing. Local anaesthesia is used.
  • Laser / Diathermy
Uses heat energy to cut and seal at the same time. The aim is to reduce active bleeding during the procedure and allow a cleaner operative field. Commonly selected for adults who want a precise cut with bleeding control. Closure is then done with suturing or other closure support depending on the case.
  • SmartClamp
A disposable clamping device that compresses the foreskin in a controlled way and allows removal with limited bleeding. Often used for fast application and a neat circular finish. The device remains for a short period and is then removed according to the doctor’s instructions.
  • Plastibel
A ring-based device commonly used in younger patients. The ring supports the foreskin in a set position and the excess tissue is allowed to separate along the line of compression. The ring typically falls off on its own after several days. This approach aims to avoid traditional stitching in suitable age groups.
  • Tissue Glue Closure
After foreskin removal, certain cases can be closed with medical-grade skin adhesive instead of or in addition to sutures. The goal is to hold the wound edges neatly together, protect the area and support cosmetic outcome while simplifying dressing care.
  • ZSR (Stapler)
A circumcision stapling system designed to cut and seal in one application using a circular stapler-like device. This can produce a uniform finish with fast operative time and controlled bleeding. The ring/staple line is then monitored and managed through follow-up until it is naturally released or removed under guidance.

How Your Method Is Chosen

  • Age group (child, teen, adult)
  • Medical reason (phimosis, infection, buried penis, hygiene request, cosmetic preference)
  • Foreskin tightness and anatomy
  • Desired downtime and aftercare preference
  • Bleeding risk and any existing medical conditions

The doctor will assess suitability and recommend one or two best-fit techniques instead of forcing a single method for everyone.

Procedure Flow

  1. Clinical Assessment
Examination of the foreskin, discussion of goals (medical, hygiene, cultural, cosmetic), and review of medical history including bleeding risk or chronic illness.
  2. Local Anaesthesia
Numbing is applied so the procedure can be done as an outpatient day case without general anaesthesia in most situations.
  3. Circumcision Using the Selected Method
The chosen technique (dorsal slit, laser/diathermy, SmartClamp, Plastibel, glue closure, ZSR stapler) is performed in a sterile clinical setting with bleeding control and wound protection.
  4. Dressing and Instructions
The area is dressed and you receive specific hygiene guidance, swelling control steps, pain management instructions, activity restrictions (including intimacy and exercise), and red-flag signs to watch for.
  5. Scheduled Follow-Up
Follow-up visits are arranged to monitor healing, adjust dressing, and confirm normal recovery. For device-based methods (SmartClamp, Plastibel, ZSR), removal/timing is supervised.

Why Multiple Options Matter

  • Personalised Outcome – Some patients prioritise fastest downtime, some prioritise cosmetic line, some have urgent medical issues like infection or severe tightness. Different tools solve different needs.
  • Bleeding Control – Energy-based or stapler methods aim to limit bleeding and shorten procedure time. Clamp- and ring-based systems aim for consistent pressure and predictable healing lines.
  • Comfort and Privacy – All methods are performed under local anaesthesia in a private clinical room.
  • Structured Aftercare – Dressing checks and wound reviews are part of the pathway. You do not leave without support.
